About Me

After much deliberation, I have decided to celebrate my 29th birthday by scaling Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa for a charitable cause. I made a conscious decision to embark on this journey today, 5th February 2008. Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro has been on my mind for a while after a friend recommended it to me a few months ago. I was a trekker during my high school days, but since then I haven’t attempted any challenging peaks.

I face 3 daunting tasks in this journey to Kilimanjaro:

1. Maintain a rigorous fitness regime, including regular yoga sessions, to build my fitness and stamina for the climb.

2. Raise atleast AED17,000 (approx. $4,600 or £2,400) for Gulf For Good to support disadvantaged children in Tanzania and Plan UK’s Mbagathi Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.

3. Start the climb to Mt. Kilimanjaro on 5th July and scale the peak on 10th July, in time to celebrate my birthday on 11th July 2008.

I have created this blog so that my family, friends, peers, colleagues, lovers, enemies and others can follow my progress and give me tips, advice, suggestions, do’s, don’ts, fundraising ideas, kisses, hugs, slaps, chest bumps, and some luck.

  2. Hello. I was reading the posts on my friend Ophelie’s facebook and I saw this one posted at 11:11 on feb 2,2008… I was curious and now I’m reading about your idea. I love it!

I once told myself I wanted to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro before I turned 25… I pretty much forgot about it until now. I still have 10 months to do it!

    Are you accepting fellow climbers?

  3. Vanessa, sure you can do it.
I mentioned my trip to an acquaintance and he said he would be doing it after 4 years on his 50th b’day with his wife. And I felt proud abt climbing at 29! How silly of me? :)
I think it would be a greater feeling for you on your 25th.

  4. :)

  5. Kedar, good plan man. Good luck with the climb – it’s going to be harsh ….

  6. Oh! And incidentally I am past-Chairman of the Montreal Section of the Alpine Club of Canada so climbing for a cause is very good!
